According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, overdose deaths, including those related to synthetic opioids, surged by 56.6% from January 2020 to 2021.
The Drug Enforcement Agency classifies fentanyl as a Schedule II controlled substance, noting it as “similar to morphine but about 100 times more potent.” Even as little as two milligrams, less than a grain of salt, can prove fatal depending on an individual’s body chemistry.
